When I needed a break from reading dark romance, I planned on picking up Never Fall For A Dragon by Lola Glass. After reading the Deceit and Devotion series, I knew immediately I’d be diving into the stories involving Brynn’s brothers – August, Jasper, and Eli.

Premise
When Elodie sees a monster-sized man having what appeared to be a heated argument with a smaller woman, she does what any girl’s girl would do and approaches them. What she didn’t realize was the man, August, was arguing with his sister and that man was a dragon shifter. All it took was one look and one touch to ignite “heat” between August and Elodie. There had only ever been one couple who managed to fight off the pain, need, and lust of heat, but to protect Elodie from the dangers August would need to soon face, they had no choice but to be a team and fight the mating bond forming between them.

My Thoughts
Lola Glass quickly became a must read comfort author for me. She writes paranormal stories filled with heat and heart that gives the good giggle kicks we love while building a world you’d love to escape into.
Honestly, I devoured this entire series in just a couple of days and I’m sitting here wondering how it took me so long to find Lola Glass.
Ok, ok, let’s dive into Never Fall for a Dragon by Lola Glass. First off, we first met the broody and quiet August, a dragon shifter, in How To Fall in Lust with a Devil. He’s one of Brynn’s three brothers, and a part of the Thunder that guards the paranormal prison inside of Mate Mountain.
Right off the bat our MMC is in trouble. He made a deal with the Villin’s in the previous series and he has to choose between being abandoned by the Thunder – a sort of found family among dragon shifters – or spending six months in jail.
A low growl rumbled in my ear. “Eyes off the demon if you want to avoid a fight, Fireball.” – Never Fall for a Dragon by Lola Glass
However, plans changed when Elodie walked right up to Brynn and August as they were arguing and suddenly “heat” – the dragon mating bond – hit.
To protect his potential mate and keep her from being forced into the prison with him, due to a mate bond, they have to fight it off. This isn’t easy because heat can be intense and painful for the female with the male needing to tend to her through the process. Additionally, heat is four weeks long and the pain just gets worse throughout it.
“You’re beautiful.” His voice was quiet. “I can’t remember if I’ve told you that.” – Never Fall for a Dragon by Lola Glass
Seeing that one of the ways the pain of heat can be diminished is through plenty of sexual gratification, we get a lot of foreplay and oral scenes before the two main characters. And while I don’t want to spoil anything for readers, lets just say the spice is really well done.
Elodie has been hurt in the past, and August had been trying to avoid the mate bond with everything he had. The two not only have to work together, while being complete strangers, but there is also a lot of growth the two have to go through. These two fight for each other by becoming an unbreakable team through heat.
“If I die, you’re going to end up with some other bastard,” August said. “So I’m not going to die. There’s no reason to talk about it. You’re mine.” – Never Fall for a Dragon by Lola Glass
Elodie’s best friends, Randa and Vi are hilarious and protective. August’s brother Eli is a constant thorn in his side. And of course Brynn appears multiple times.
One thing I absolutely love about Lola Glass is the way she writes stories with found family vibes in the friendships. So the side characters almost always have a strong role in the books, and we’re lucky enough to get those side characters with their own stories too.
The overall vibes of the book are paranormal romantic comedy. You’ll get all the heart of Hallmark, the heat and tension we love from Lola, a bit of banter, and a whole lot of giggle kicks.
