Never Flirt with a Dragon by Lola Glass Review

Never Flirt with a Dragon by Lola Glass

As soon as I finished Never Fall for a Dragon I dove directly into Never Flirt With a Dragon by Lola Glass. There wasn’t even a waiting period, I just grabbed it immediately and devoured the entire book, and I loved every minute of it.

Never Flirt with a Dragon by Lola Glass

Never Flirt with a Dragon by Lola Glass is the second book in the Mate Mountain series. It is a paranormal romantic comedy published on June 12th, 2024 and is 242 pages long. You can find the book on Amazon, Kindle Unlimited, and the author’s website here.

Premise

Randa was just trying to avoid listening to her twin sister, Vi, fight with Eli and took a seat next to Eli’s brother, Jasper. While she talked, he grunted and refused to look at her. Then he accidentally picked up her drink. Suddenly his hand was on her knee and his fire was spreading through her veins. Heat had started and now she’s being whisked away to Mate Mountain, but she didn’t want a mate, and she knew for damn sure neither did Jas.

My Thoughts

Sometimes you need a book that doesn’t have huge stakes, where the couple is largely unproblematic, where there’s miscommunication but it’s solved quickly. Sometimes you want a book that’s just going to make you feel good.

Randa and Jas are adorable, and this book is centered heavily on the start of a relationship. They’re getting to know each other, they are trying to figure out if they should avoid the bond or not.

“You belong to me now, female.” – Never Flirt with a Dragon by Lola Glass

Personally, I loved Randa for her methodical ways. She takes her time, asks questions, and figures out how she feels in a way that’s relatable. She’s also not sorry for the way she is. I loved seeing a character be unapologetically who she is.

And Jas, with heat his more animalistic side came out, and there were times when it was difficult for him to control that. Except, he kept making Randa pancakes – cause it was all he knew how to make – and when he figured out their were communication issues, he worked hard at helping her understand everything.

But I’d already realized what she was to me, and would’ve triggered it myself if she’d so much as smiled at another unmated male at that party other than Eli. – Never Flirt with a Dragon by Lola Glass

These two aren’t enemies, they aren’t really friends, but rather they knew about each other. Well, Jas may have known a bit more about Randa than she realizes at first. Still the way their relationship progressed was, outside of the paranormal aspect, super normal, and it just made their romance relatable.

There was a lot of tension between Randa and Jas as they tried to decide if they wanted to give in to the mate bond. Heat makes the couple basically feral for each other and tries to force the two together. As usual I won’t give away the spoilers on if they go through with the bond or not.

“Because I don’t want a mate bond, but I do want you. The thought of watching you walk away from me, or into another man’s arms, makes me lose control.” “That’s because of the bond.” “It’s because you’re mine. And you were mine before heat ever started.” – Never Flirt with a Dragon by Lola Glass

I wouldn’t say there was a ton of character growth, other than in the way the two learned to meld their lives together. This story’s plot is focused on the couple only.

“Mate mode? Classic.” Elodie lifted her fingers in the okay symbol. “I love it.” – Never Flirt with a Dragon by Lola Glass

Vi, Randa’s twin, was fantastic but also we didn’t see a lot of her or anyone else in this book. The same characters from the first book were in this one as well, and we love to see them, but as I mentioned the book is heavily focused on the couple.

Cozy, and low-angst this is a great paranormal romantic comedy escape needed when the world is too much and you need a calming, sweet and spicy story.
