Second chance romance can range from missed opportunities to full blown relationships that break up. What I will say is, I rarely read one in which one of the MC’s have cheated against the other. So if you’re looking for a cheater forgiveness trope, you won’t find it in this list.

Fighting for Number 57 by Eden Knox

Kane is the one person who could save Gabby’s life, but he has no clue his daughter even exists. Sami wanted it that way after he broke her trust, but now he could be the donor that gives Gabby the best chance at life. There’s no easy way to tell your first love that he’s a dad, made even more complicated by a drunken Vegas night and a marriage certificate.

Oh you’re gonna hate Kane, when you first start reading this book. Except not everything is what it seemed. Sami did what she thought was best for herself and her daughter, and held things down for years, but there is no length she won’t go to for her daughter. Even if it means revealing everything to the man who broke her heart.

Love, Utley by SJ Tilly

Hannah’s responsibilities and obligations pulled her away from Maddox with no notice, and he didn’t even bother reaching out to her. So years later when he shows up as the new owner of her company, she does her very best to keep her cool. Maddox, however, can’t because Hannah was the dream girl who ghosted him, or so he thought.

SJ Tilly can do no wrong when it comes to her books. She writes tension, heat, heart, and spice that will keep you flipping those pages until you realize it’s three in the morning and you only have a few hours to catch your Zzz’s. It’s worth it though to get that happily ever after that will set everything right.

Unfinished by Jayne Katway

Liam and Hannah had one perfect summer together, until his mother ruined everything. Even after trying to stay friendly, when his secrets are revealed Hannah has no choice but to end it all and he needs to do what is necessary to protect her. But he’s convinced their story is unfinished, and will do anything to be with her again.

A Shameless Self Promo, Unfinished is a dark mafia romance – the first in a completed series. It is a second chance romance with found family, friendships that stand the test of time, and a strong FMC.

Final Offer by Lauren Asher

The final book in the Dreamland Billionaires series, Callahan and Alana were childhood friends until he broke her heart and decided to never return to Lake Wisteria. That is until a demand in a will meant he needed to return to sell the home his grandfather owned. Except Alana’s name is already on the deed.

I absolutely loved this book, it was my favorite of the series. Callahan’s struggles paired with Alana’s strength, their first love history, leads to a whole lot of heat and banter. There may have been a few tears too.

The Confession Duet by KD Robichaux

Vivian and Corbin met young and it was love at first sight. They did everything right, took things slow, married, and were soulmates. That is until one confession while he’s deployed implodes everything. Ten years after their divorce, ten years of keeping tabs on Vivian, when she ends up in his club, learning from him, and the truth finally comes out. The past ten years he’d been living a lie.

Okay, right off the bat, this book has heart breaking triggers with trauma that goes deep. When I tell you I cried, I’ll tell you I ugly sobbed. The start of the story is very cute contemporary romance, but by the time you take the jump into the future, things start getting dark. So reader, check those triggers, and be prepared to cry for these characters.

Vengeful Rotten Casualties by Lucy Smoke

Luc and Micki were childhood best friends, turned teenage love, when Micki vanished entirely. It didn’t matter how much time had passed, she held a piece of his heart. Except when she comes back to town, he finds out fast that Micki isn’t the same girl he knew, and she’s out for revenge.

This entire series was incredible, and while not entirely necessary to read all the books before this one, I highly recommend you do. It’ll be worth it. Especially since there are clues and shocking reveals that will put everything together. I loved Luc and Micki is the strong FMC we all want for our books.

Butterflies and Vicious Lies by Kayleigh King

Posie and Rafferty had that high school friendship and love. Until the Posie betrayed him in. With her return to the area, and attending college, his plans are to exact his revenge on her. Posie takes the revenge, regardless of the secrets she holds, and he can’t deny the chemistry between them.

A dark romance with plenty of triggers to check out before reading, I promise you will hate Rafferty before you love him. Another book that left me in tears, Butterflies and Vicious lies by Kayleigh King is a must read for dark romance lovers.

Bloodied Hands by Adelaide Forrest

Ivory and Matteo were high school sweethearts until he broke her heart entirely. Years later after being held hostage in a bank robbery, Ivory finds out she’s under Matteo’s protection. He let her go once, he won’t do it again, so when they meet again, he decides to lay permanent claim to the one who got away.

Matteo is your over the top possessive MMC, and the things he does should have any woman running in real life. However, in fiction, those red flags look awfully green. Bloodied Hands is the first book in a six book series, but it is a complete standalone.

Resting Witch Face by Juliette Cross

Jules and Ruben had very different futures, so when they separated twelve years ago, it was for good reasons. Except there was no denying the chemistry between them. And that chemistry comes flaring back as the two take on a cause for werewolves.

A paranormal romance it is the fifth book in a series, while a standalone, I enjoyed reading the entire series and highly recommend it. There is banter, high tension, and even better heat between the MC’s.

Darkest Sins by Neva Altaj

Nera saved Kai’s life, and thought she’d never see him again. Except he kept showing up. Unfortunately Nera and Kai were separated when he was captured, and in the process she ended up married. Except he’s coming back for her, and no one will get in his way to take back what’s always been his.

I absolutely loved this book. It was heartbreaking, beautiful, and I loved the way these two fought for each other at every single turn. It is the ninth book in the Perfectly Imperfect series, however, it is a complete standalone. Every book in the series is and you don’t really need to read any of the previous books to dive in. That being said, I love this series and read all of the books one right after the other.

Caught Up by Navessa Allen

When Nico broke Lauren’s heart, and let the entire school believe she was just another obsessed girl, the bullying got so bad she was forced to switch schools. So when Nico suddenly comes back into her life, she’s absolutely not giving him a chance. No way. Okay maybe once, but that’s it.

A mafia romance with a sex worker FMC who advocates for protections around sex work? Hell yes. Nico is obsessed and protective while Lauren is determined to stand her ground with him. He can’t get away with shit, at least not without massive explanations. I loved the dynamic and heat between these two.

Second Chance Romance Books

I personally love a good second chance romance, especially when it’s a high chemistry and high tension couple that includes loads of banter. These characters know each other inside and out.

They go through a break-up, most of the time due to either good intentions or because they were ripped apart, and then when they find each other years later that chemistry is still there. Second Chance romance almost always has some of the best character growth.

What second chance romance books are your favorites? Have you read any of the books from this list? Let me know in the comments I love interacting with other readers over books I also enjoyed.
