Premise

Miley was turned into a vampire, and now she has to do the thing that vampires do, drink from a source. Except there is nothing appetizing about it to her, she can’t stomach it. Then she finds out that she can’t stomach it because she’s already drank the blood of her potential mate.

What she doesn’t know is that Zander gave her his blood, knowing damn well that she’d become addicted to it, and she wouldn’t be happy about that. When his secret comes out, and some of hers do, the two have to come to some sort of agreement.

Triggers

My Thoughts

Miley was turned into a vampire against her will, by ex boyfriend. She was then left to starve and if it weren’t for the Villins, three brothers who saved her, she wouldn’t be alive. Now that she’s getting a handle on her new paranormal existence, she’s getting calls and texts from the ex who has formed an obsession over her. But she’s got too many other things going on to talk to that asshole.

Meanwhile, Zander has been feeding her his blood – in bags – in hopes to help her grow stronger, knowing that she is his potential mate and now that she’s had a taste of his blood, she’ll crave no one else’s. It was dubious, but to Zander, a necessary action to take.

“This is Alexander Villin, Miley’s mate. Message her again, and I will make your life a living hell. Understand?” – How To Fall In Like With A Monster by Lola Glass

Displeased when she finds out about the potential mate situation, she’s trying to fight the pull to the man, but he smells so good. Good enough to sink her teeth into him, literally. Of course, this is around the same time that Zander finds out Miley hasn’t quite been taking care of herself as a new vampire, and that just won’t do with his potential mate.

Now the two are in battling it out, while navigating their potential bond. But Miley sure as hell isn’t ready to say it’ll be forever, even if Zander is a persuasive demon.

“Sex is better with an emotional connection. Assuming the next guy knows what he’s doing, and the feelings are mutual, it won’t be just as good. It’ll be better.” – How To Fall In Like With A Monster by Lola Glass

This is absolutely a slow burn, with lots of heat and tension between the two MC’s Zander believes solidifying their bond is necessary, but he’s willing to be as patient as Miley needs him to be.

I loved the dynamics between these two, and the way they bickered was great too. It all just made the build up to the big spice scene worth it.

“Fuck you,” I snapped, my humor gone. “I wish you would, Sweetheart!” he yelled behind me. – How To Fall In Like With A Monster by Lola Glass

Miley went through a pretty traumatic situation, in a lot of ways her trust with men has been broken entirely, and you can’t blame her. While she’s seemingly accepted her new reality with ease, you’ll see the internalized healing she needs to go through in order to start trusting anyone other than her best friends.

What I love a lot about this series is the friendship between the three main women. Tatum, Miley, and Bryn are extremely close, chosen sisters, and they have each other’s backs. I love the way they stick up for each other, and support each other too.

While not as Hallmark-ish as the first book, I still consider this book to be a paranormal rom-com. There are giggle-kicking, laugh-out-loud, moments but the themes and trauma of the FMC make this a touch more on the darker side.
