The Pucking Wrong Man by CR Jane has officially put me in a chokehold. I’m absolutely obsessed with the obsessive, protective, and possessive men that she writes. I can’t get enough of it.

Premise
Life had full blown sucked for Anastasia Lennox. An abusive father almost ended the only joy she found in life through dance when he broke her leg as a child. It only gets worse from there when she ended up in the care of a family who’s psychotic son liked to traumatize her. The only person she could count on was herself and she refused to owe anyone anything. However, when Camden James – hockey star – comes into her life, all he wants to do is care for her, and he’s willing to do anything it takes to get her to let him.

My Thoughts
My brain chemistry has been changed while I’ve been reading this series, I swear, because I cannot get enough of these men. They are completely unhinged and completely self-aware and I absolutely love it.
Camden James is nicknamed Hero, because he’s always helping people. He goes out of his way to help, especially women, and with mostly pure intentions. His mom was abused and treated like shit by his step-father when Camden was a child. As an adult he tries to be the best man he can be.
Of course it wouldn’t be a Pucking Wrong book if he didn’t take one look at our FMC, Anastasia, and go a little bit psychotic. Sure he did some questionable things but it was all because he wanted to completely take care of her, so it’s totally fine.
“Fuck! I glanced around, a strange heat clawing up my neck. Everyone was seeing her like this. Everyone was seeing what was mine.” – The Pucking Wrong Man by CR Jane
Meanwhile, Anastasia is living in a shelter because she is homeless and has been for years. She’s being stalked by her psychotic foster brother. And her old injury is giving her more problems than usual. If anyone deserves or needs someone to care for them, it’s her.
I absolutely loved the tension building we got in this book, while they didn’t actually do the deed until after 60% I wouldn’t consider it a full slow burn due to a few spicy scenes sprinkled in before that.
“It had been eighteen minutes and thirty-two seconds since I’d seen her last.” – The Pucking Wrong Man by CR Jane
I will forewarn you though, there is a small daddy/brat dynamic in this book as well as a bit of spanking. There also is a virginity aspect, which I’m not a big fan of, but it didn’t have purity culture undertones so no triggers there.
Camden is still Hero by the end of the book, still the good guy, just super protective over Anastasia and willing to do a few questionable things to protect her from herself and force her into situations where he could take care of her fully.
“I’m going to keep you forever,” I think he muttered as I fell asleep, a smile on my lips as I slipped into the best dreams I’d ever had. – The Pucking Wrong Man by CR Jane
As for Anastasia, she learns to let herself be taken care of, learns to trust people after a lifetime of let downs, and even learns to take better care of herself too.
As always all of the Pucking Wrong men and women make appearances in this book, and they are hilarious. At this point it’s turning into a little found family situation and I’m a sucker for found family.
While the other books are dark due to the nature in which the men obsess over their women, I didn’t feel Camden was as bad as the other men. Still obsessed, but most of the darkness came in from her background.
If you like obsessive and protective daddy types, this is the book for you.
