Hans by SJ Tilly Review

Hans by SJ Tilly Review

Hans by SJ Tilly in a lot of ways was a return to Nero, the book that started the Alliance series, but make him more unhinged. And I was absolutely here for it. From the start Hans won me over, and Cassandra was an amazing FMC too. It was a fantastic book to close out the series and there is an emptiness in me that we won’t be getting more from these characters.

Premise

Good neighbor Cassandra is simply trying to be friendly with her new neighbor, Hans, by delivering her kitchen creations – if you can call them that – to his front door. Too bad he never opens the door. At least, until he suddenly appears on her front stoop holding a book of boudoir pictures of her that had accidentally been delivered to his house and he’s demanding who she had them taken for. Then he’s kissing her like she’s never been kissed before. If only she knew what Hans actually did for a living, she might have kept her distance.

Triggers

Triggers found in Hans by SJ Tilly include:

  • Graphic violence, murder, death
  • Stalking with breaking and entering and surveillance
  • Human Trafficking
  • Past familial death
  • Sexually explicit scenes

My Thoughts

To close out the Alliance series SJ Tilly said, let’s take Nero but make him even more obsessed and insane. That’s how we got Hans. Mentioned in previous books we don’t know much about him until we dive into his book and immediately fall for the man.

Which is good, because if I witnessed her getting into the back of a stranger’s car, I’d have my sniper rifle out and aimed at the back of the driver’s head before you could say psychotic. – Hans by SJ Tilly

Obsessed with his neighbor, Cassandra, he desperately tries to keep his distance from her knowing that to act on his obsession could potentially make her a target. Hans is a vigilante, working with a group of women who take out human traffickers.

Of course, his distance doesn’t keep sunshine Cassandra away from the broody hot viking-like neighbor of hers. Nope, she creates these … unique, yeah unique dishes and takes them over to him. And even though the food is disgusting he eats every single crumb.

My stomach protests at the last bite, but I can’t waste it. It doesn’t matter how bad her creations are, my deep-seated need to consume every bit of Cassandra won’t let me throw them away. – Hans by SJ Tilly

A quiet man he’s also truthful, for the most part, with Cassandra. As in if she asks a question out right he gives the answer without divulging anything additional until she needs to know.

That being said, the man does tension and dirty talk well. Even after their first spice scene the tension continues between the two main characters and their spicy scenes are hot AF.

While both characters stay true to themselves throughout the entire book, we do witness some change in Cassandra. She becomes a bit of a bad ass throughout the book and I am absolutely here for it.

A man with a basement full of guns and camera angles of my house, who also keeps body bags in his truck, has to be a red flag. Right? – Hans by SJ Tilly

Additionally, Nero appears in the book, along with King and Dom, and it’s just perfection. I loved that we got this moment with the four men.

I would describe the vibes of this book as dark and action packed. There is a pretty heavy revenge plot which I always enjoy. And like the previous books in the series I was sucked into reading it again as I was refreshing my memory and searching out appropriate quotes.
