Powerless by Elsie Silver is a beautiful friends to lovers story. Practically growing up together they are basically found family, but the two had always been clear that they weren’t related. Their tortured childhoods, familial expectations, and life in general had prevented them from coming to terms with their more than friends feelings. Except, we all know that best friends often make the best significant others.

My Thoughts
I’m not a big friends to lovers fan, but sometimes I just need that sweet type of read and this book absolutely filled that mood. When I picked up the first book in the series I was looking for small town cute reads and what I got were emotional stories with laughter, some tears, and a whole lot of found family.
Jasper is an quasi-adopted member of the Eaton family, and Sloane is their cousin, a sweet girl stuck in the toxic side of the family. While her father is dead set on his ballerina daughter marrying well, she’s not willing to look past the cheating ways of her ex-fiance. To run away from it her and Jasper go on a road trip together.
“Because I think I’m about to fuck everything up between us.” And then he kisses me.” – Powerless by Elsie Silver
Compared to the first two FMC’s in the series Sloane wasn’t as snarky or witty, but she does have a sort of quiet strength to her. Jasper on the other hand is the quiet one of the family with a hidden dirty mouth. The way this man made me blush so hard.
So far the series had been pretty tame, compared to some of the books I normally read, but still incredibly hot with our dirty talking cowboys. Jasper, however, takes that to a whole new level. One “crawl to me,” moment and I was on the floor ready to do my own crawling.
“See, Sloane? You can wear someone else’s ring, but we both know you’ve always been mine.” – Powerless by Elsie Silver
With the help of her best friend, Sloane really starts to step into her own. She’s ready to stop appeasing others in favor of making herself happy, and that’s all Jasper wants for her.
“Everyone talks about women being too emotional. Too hormonal. I’m inclined to think men are the problem. Us women would be just fine without all of you fucking us up.” – Powerless by Elsie Silver
All of the Eaton boys make appearances throughout the series, and we love seeing it. Though it’s always great when we get little sneak peeks into what could be coming with the final two books in the series.
This book had major found family vibes, but Jasper is a hockey star so we’re getting out of Chestnut Springs a bit. It’s like taking a short vacation from the small town but longing for your home by the end of it.
