My Thoughts

Being a fan of hockey and football it’s actually surprisingly hard for me to get into sports romances. You’d think I’d be a huge fan but it actually takes quite a bit of convincing to get me to read the sports romance genre. Typically I need to know that the author enjoys the sports as well, because then I at least know they’ll do it justice.

With The Pucking Wrong Number by CR Jane I was more drawn in by the dark romance aspects than the sports aspects, and I wasn’t at all disappointed.

We meet Monroe first reading about her heart-breaking childhood and the last words her mother ever said to her that would haunt her throughout her life. Growing up like she did, and dealing with the advances of not-so-great men, it’s unsurprising that she has trust issues.

Meanwhile, Lincoln is living his dreams despite the way his father is disappointed with him. An unwanted child, the spare who needed to step into the shoes of his older brother after his tragic death, Lincoln was busy balancing the expectations of his father while chasing his own dreams.

When Lincoln accidentally texted a wrong number, Monroe, everything changes for both of them. His obsession grows quickly as he looks into the woman he’s texting. Soon the stalking starts, then he manufactures situations that would force her to spend more time with him.

As a reader your torn between loving Lincoln, and hating the way he’s interfering in Monroe’s life.

“I was going to kill Lincoln. I would probably end up kissing him first. But then I was definitely going to kill him.” – The Pucking Wrong Number by CR Jane

There is something sweet about the way Lincoln went about initiating sex with Monroe. Taking care of her, while patiently waiting for her to enthusiastically consent to take it further.

The tension building leading up the spice was chef’s kiss, giving you plenty of those blushing smiles moments. Then once the spice hits it’s hot as hell and plentiful.

“If you ever wear another man’s jersey, I will kill that man. So be careful, sweetheart.” – The Pucking Wrong Number by CR Jane

While the spice is spicing, there is this deep intimacy that grows between our two main characters that has nothing to do with sex. As they both begin opening up about their paths they both show determination to help each other heal from their trauma’s. In helping each other they also learn valuable lessons that help themselves.

So while Lincoln remains the obsessed, protective MMC we all love, and will never change that, we still see him learn to prioritize himself as well. As for Monroe, well, she learns to allow herself to open up and trust others.

“I love you. And I’ll never stop,” he told me. “I’d do anything for you…I’d live for you.” – The Pucking Wrong Number by CR Jane

As far as side characters go, Ari Lancaster takes the cake, and we’ll be seeing more about him in the next book.

You want a truly obsessed MMC who will literally do heinous things to make a woman his? This is that book.
