Premise
Several women were kidnapped from earth by evil aliens. Locked in cryo-chambers and cages, the women were abused by these aliens until malfunctions on the ship forced the aliens to crash the women into an Ice Planet. The first book tells the story of how the women meet a blue alien race on the planet the women have named Not-Hoth.
The entire series follows a different couple and are all told from a first person dual POV. Look, I didn’t think I would like alien romance, but I am an Ice Planet Barbarian fan now and my husband and I have an agreement should big blue aliens ever visit us on earth.
My Thoughts
You wouldn’t think a book about an large blue aliens would make you cry but I’ll admit it has for me. Not every single book does, however a couple of them have. Several of the backstories of the women in this book, and even the men, are heart-wrenching and trauma filled, so be prepared for that going it.
Ruby Dixon has done an amazing job in creating and portraying these characters. The aliens are completely lost when it comes to human expressions and it’s hilarious as they try to navigate winning over their fated mates.
Each of the books has about 2-4 spicy scenes in them and they are certainly … imaginative. I mean, the aliens have horns, tails, and even a little something extra that makes everything more pleasurable. Additionally, the aliens doing know the correct terms for certain parts on a woman, so they’ve come up with their own words for them, and all they know is those things bring great pleasure to their mate.
With the books being on the shorter side there is still a lot of character growth in not all the main characters. They are adapting to each other, needing to explain their emotions, phrases, and the way to stay alive on such a brutal planet.
Speaking of the planet, Ruby Dixon has done such an amazing job with world building. Every time I pick up a book, I’m transported to this freezing planet with whole ecosystems, animals, and enemy aliens. It’s terrifying, beautiful, and so well planned I’m absolutely amazed by the imagination it took to create it.
As far as the side characters go, most of them end up with a book themselves, at least so far in my reading, but I love seeing former mains come in and out throughout the series. Even the first books main characters end up appearing throughout the series and it’s almost like you never had to say goodbye to them cause they’re still around.
The vibes of the series is fun, mostly lighthearted, though the books often deal in heavy subjects. They are fantastic for some escapism when our own world becomes a bit too much.
Who Would Like This Book?
If I tried to list all of the tropes in Ice Planet Barbarians you’d likely grow bored after the first one. I will say that each book mostly stands on it’s own, with a few exceptions. As long as you read the first book, you could probably skip a book here or there if the series is just too much for you to take on but you want to give it a try.
Though you could do what I’m doing and read one book every month or so. I will eventually finish the series, it just might take me awhile to do so.
If you’re a fan of Tana Stone or Kimberly Lemming you may really enjoy these books as well. The humor and writing styles are similar enough.
