Premise

Cade needs a nanny for the summer, and Willa’s brother just closed the bar she worked at for a remodel. Being a nanny for the cutest funniest kid, Luke, sounds like an excellent idea, plus she’ll be close to her bestie for the entire Summer. The only downside is Luke’s dad, Cade, is a bit of a grump who is way too serious. Still, he’s hot to look at and she might have a bit of fun messing with him afterall.

My Thoughts

The way this book had me cracking up. Willa is a straight talking whole ass bonfire of sass and I love it. The banter, the flirting, the tension, it was all absolutely perfect. Maybe this is why I keep coming back to the nanny trope.

I did not put this book down, it had me hooked and I kept on reading and laughing, and yes even shed a tear or two. It is not a fluffy small town rom com but a story with real emotions and connections between every character.

“And I realize in that moment maybe I am heartless after all, because the beautiful girl with the copper hair grinning back at me right now is the one who stole it.” – Heartless by Elsie Silver

Luke was adorable and I loved the instant connection between Willa and him. She was genuinely protective and encouraging, which just endeared her to Cade even more.

This was a bit of a slow burn, but once the fire got to roaring it was scorching. I loved the dynamics between these main characters.

Cade has extreme trust issues, and Willa is a free spirit. She pushes him, and he’s drawn to her. If he could only learn to let her in, and she could learn to put down roots.

“Have you tried talking to him?” I blink at her. “Talking?” “Yes. You know . . . where you use your mouth to create words that describe what’s going through your head.” “Sounds weird. Sounds awkward. Don’t like it. Not approved by me.” – Heartless by Elsie Silver

Hands down, Luke is one of the cutest fictional kids I’ve read. I especially loved how the author didn’t make him unnecessarily mature for his age, he was just a kid having a blast.

“Sounds like her loss, because you might be the coolest kid I’ve ever met.” She doesn’t use a sad voice, or a baby voice, she just talks to him like a normal human being. “Fucking hell,” I curse under my breath because she just practically hired herself.” – Heartless by Elsie Silver

If you are looking for that Summer love in the country, mixed with found family, and a bit of Sunday brunch gossip sessions, this is that book. It’s the perfect sit in a cozy patio chair with an icy drink and escape type of read.
