My Thoughts
After reading Dirty Deals Over Decaf I knew I’d be reading the entire Monsters of Mistwood series. The second book, Bowling With Bigfoot, did not disappoint and in fact made me fall even more for Eden Crowe. I love her books so much, there is the perfect amount of heart, snark, and banter that I just can’t get enough of them.
Hazel is a human living in a the small town of Mistwood, West Virginia where actual monsters live quiet lives. But Hazel’s life hasn’t been easy. She has a heartbreaking story of losing her parents and needing to step up to care for a younger sister, who is going through her own issues.
To do that, Hazel needs to work, a lot. The only time she has off is on Friday nights and it’s the only time she really allows herself to go out and have some fun. And by go out, she hits up the local bowling alley with her league, the Ball Busters.
Of course her mortal enemy, Eric Sasqui – a sasquatch – has his own league and every single friday night the two a verbally sparring each other. The banter and snark between Eric and Hazel is absolutely top notch.
“I’m a strong, independent woman, who doesn’t need a man to protect me. So why then does casually threatening a man’s life on my behalf get something inside me tingling at just the thought?” – Bowling with Bigfoot by Eden Crowe
This is a rivals to lovers, so we know eventually the two are hitting it off, and I gotta say I absolutely loved the way our author advanced this story. Typically a rivals to lovers needs a lot more time before they dive into the sack together, and don’t worry she does a good job of getting it done.
There is quite of a bit of spice for a short book, but Eden Crowe is fantastic about weaving plot and spice in a way that makes the mixture exactly perfect. You get a lot of story, a good amount of spice, and a sweet happily ever after.
“Eric convinces me to call off from my night shift at Holler General in favor of getting chased down and fucked in the woods. To be honest, I don’t think I needed all that much convincing.” – Bowling with Bigfoot by Eden Crowe
Hazel had a lot of growth in the story. Between the past, the stress of her work schedule and the worries she has for her sister, she hasn’t had a lot of time to analyze situations properly.
“So what I’m hearing is that you like all the ways that I surprise you,” He says, his cocky grin making a flashy return. “Is that it, Hazel?” – Bowling with Bigfoot by Eden Crowe
The town is small so there are a few quirky characters that I loved here. Carl and Lucien from the first book make an appearance again, and I absolutely adore them. But we also get to meet some of Eric’s family and couple of more characters from the league.
Overall the book is just a damn good time. It’s funny, sweet, and filled with imagination. *wink*
